This was my first experience with truly classical pilates instruction. Blaire was amazing - the hour went by so fast. I was then sore in places I haven't been sore in a long time after the session with her. I can already feel an improvement in my posture and flexibility as well as core strength. She is truly passionate about providing classical pilates instruction in the way it was intended by founder Joseph Pilates. I've got my husband now signed up for regular classes too!
What is the difference between private, semi-private and small group classes?
Private Pilates classes involve one-on-one instruction, allowing for personalized attention and tailored workouts. Semi-private classes involve a small group, typically 2-4 people, offering a balance between individualized guidance and group dynamics. Small group Pilates classes involve a slightly larger group providing a social atmosphere while still maintaining a degree of individualized instruction.
What should I anticipate upon arriving at the studio?
Prepare for a guided experience led by our dedicated and enthusiastic instructors. They will expertly guide you through exercises designed to enhance your body awareness, strengthen your core, and more.
What's the recommended arrival time, and what's the appropriate attire?
For first-time visitors, we recommend arriving 10 minutes early to familiarize yourself with the studio. If you're a regular, simply aim to be there at the start of the class.
Arrive in something comfortable that facilitates movement—no need for shoes. If you prefer, bring socks, but the choice is entirely yours!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOGA AND CLASSICAL PILATES?
The primary distinctions are:
1. Pilates does not incorporate the spiritual element that Yoga involves.
2. While in Yoga you may hold positions for extended periods of time. Pilates moves forward at all times. Once you have learned the technique, you may do thirty or more different exercises in your one-hour session. (Unlike circuit training, there is no repetition of sets. After an exercise is done, you move on to a new one. There is a logical progression.)
CAN I TAKE PILATES IF I AM OVERWEIGHT, HAVE BAD KNEES, BAD BACK, "TOO OLD?"
Romana's Pilates instructors are trained to assess individual weaknesses and limitations and design personalized workouts that are safe and effective. With a doctors approval (if needed), we can help to rehabilitate both chronic and acute injuries to a achieve a more functional body. Pilates is for everyone. There are over 700 different exercises in the Pilates technique, all of them subject to modification. It is not necessary to be “in shape” to start Pilates!
WILL CLASSICAL PILATES HELP ME LOSE WEIGHT? WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Joseph Pilates said “In 10 sessions you will feel the difference. In 20 sessions you will see the difference. And in 30, you will be on your way to having a whole new body”. If done regularly and with perseverance, and if combined with a sensible diet, Pilates will give you a slimmer, more toned body. Pilates may even change the shape of your body without altering your weight at all. If you are looking to lose fifteen to twenty pounds or more, classical Pilates should be part of a wider regimen of diet and cardiovascular activity. After your first Pilates class, you will have gained some valuable fundamental knowledge pertaining to your everyday physical behavior. Standing up straight will make a waistline look trimmer. More dramatic results will come with time and diligence. Pilates requires your focus and energy. The more of each you provide, the faster your goals will be reached.
WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE PAY FOR PILATES?
Classical Pilates classes can be submitted under your Health Savings Account, in many cases, please check with your individual plan.
